Dear Colleagues, Distinguished Guests, and Fellow Scholars,

It is my great honor as the Chair of the 17th International Conference on the History of Science in East Asia (17th ICHSEA) to extend a warm welcome to each of you. This academic gathering will be held in Inner Mongolia, China, from August 16th to 20th, 2027, hosted by the Institute for the History of Science and Technology, Inner Mongolia Normal University, on behalf of the International Society for the History of East Asian Science, Technology and Medicine (ISHEASTM). I am delighted to gather global scholars in this land of profound cultural heritage.

Since its 1982 inauguration in Leuven, Belgium, ICHSEA has become the premier academic forum for scholars studying the history of East Asian science, technology, and medicine. For over four decades, it has fostered global dialogue, collaboration and knowledge exchange, highlighting the rich traditions of East Asian science that have shaped human civilization.

This 17th ICHSEA is special: Inner Mongolia, a Silk Road crossroads and cradle of nomadic civilizations, bears unique traces of interactions between East Asian and Eurasian scientific traditions. Against this backdrop, we will share cutting-edge research and deepen our understanding of East Asian science’s historical context.

Our organizing team has worked diligently to curate a diverse program covering traditional mathematical and astronomical systems, cross-cultural knowledge transmission, traditional medicine, and the modern transformation of East Asian science. It aims to showcase latest research and inspire new collaborations.

Welcome to our overseas guests—may your stay be intellectually and culturally rewarding. To domestic colleagues, thank you for your support. Every participant, whether senior scholar, young researcher or student, brings invaluable contributions.

Over the next five days, let us engage in open, rigorous discussions, exchange ideas freely, honor East Asian scientific legacies, and strengthen the international cooperation that defines ICHSEA.
